Welcome to Alvarez Studios — where traditional and digital collide.
Here, you will encounter collections of traditional hand-drawn art, digital graphic design work and pieces that merge both methods — all designed with a passion for color, creativity and innovation.
Hello! My name is Lauriel Alvarez.
Born and raised in Indiana, I was the kid who loathed gym class and lived for art. My crayons were never far from reach, and I always knew that I wanted to have a career in a creative field. Late in my high school years, my journalism teacher noticed that I had a knack for design and suggested that I join the school’s yearbook staff. This is where I fell in love with page layouts, adding my creative flair to every page I was assigned. I soon attended Ivy Tech Community College, graduating Magna Cum Laude with an associate’s degree in general studies. I transferred these credits to Indiana University, where I earned my bachelor’s in studio art with a graphic design focus. After graduation, I took the skills I had gained to a local sign shop, where I designed and produced various types of signage and vehicle decals. This was followed by a job as a graphic artist for a sock manufacturing company, where I continue to work today. There, I have created designs that have been sold to pro sports teams, colleges, national parks and more.
My artistic hobbies focused almost exclusively on graphic design (logos, posters, etc) until the pandemic hit in 2020. Like many others, I found myself stuck at home with an overwhelming amount of time on my hands. I decided to dust off my drawing supplies that had sat unused since college, and suddenly my love for traditional, hand-drawn art was reinvigorated. As of late, I have been loving the combination of hand-drawn art with elements I’ve created on the computer. I’m always excited to try new techniques.
Outside of art, I enjoy hiking, roller coasters and going on cruises with my husband — who asked me out on our first date as I was leaving a yearbook staff meeting all those years ago.
